Our third Section of the clinic we have termed Perry Medical. In addition to the Primary Care and Urgent Care parts of our practice there is a third section which represents Some cutting edge Medicine that has become of particular interest to me. The PhD part of me never stops looking and exploring what’s around the corner, What’s new and exciting. A great deal is snake oil, presented by Charlatans. Lyme disease, Chelation therapy, Ivermectin for COVID-19, any opportunity to prey on the medically uneducated.
But there is a new subset of medicine that has caught my attention. Something that has passed the tests and is new and exciting and allows me to offer more to my patients. To that point we are also offering:

Stem Cell/Platelets Rich Plasma treatments
Stem cells are essentially embryonic cells found in our blood stream and isolated with the Platelet Layer which also contains Growth Factors. It is these growth factors which are proteins that stimulate Stem Cells and any other cells that are exposed to them to grow and enrich their environment. Primarily we use them to stimulate collagen growth in tendons and the base collagen layers of the skin. By doing this we increase the collagen in our skin to reduce wrinkles; repair tendons and ligaments. In the face it is a more long lasting treatment for wrinkles than Botox and can even make the breasts fuller and lifted (unfortunately wont increase the size). It is a more natural process as it uses our own stem cells and platelets from our own blood. So there’s no allergic reactions. It literally reverses time by thickening the collagen layer of the skin.
In joints it repairs weakened and torn tendons and ligaments. It is also used for minor meniscus tears in the knees eliminating the need for surgery. I have used it for chronic back pain due to small tendon ruptures at the base of the postural muscles. Once that repair was stable and the patient was pain free, the opposite side was injected to strengthen the opposite tendon.
These treatments usually are repeated three times over three months for best results. The use of stem cells was limited due to legal and religious issues of obtaining the stem cells. That is until we discovered a method to extract the stem cells along with the Platelet Rich Plasma Growth Factors from our own blood. This now gives us a never ending supply of these magical cells for a multitude of uses.
The vampire face lift was developed by Dr. Runels using Platelet derived Stem Cells to thicken the collagen around the eyes and forehead (same places as Botox is used). This procedure stimulates collagen in the face whereby smoothing wrinkles and signs of aging in a more stable and longer lasting treatment.
The actual procedure is simple and relatively painless. Several tubes of blood are drawn in special tubes and processed through several steps of centrifugation, This yields several cc’s of a suspension that is rich in Platelets, growth factors and Stem Cells. A numbing cream is applied and then your bodies Platelets and Stem Cells are injected into the collagen layer of the skin where the Stem Cells begin promoting the growth and thickening of the collagen layer thereby smoothing the skin and removing wrinkles. Unlike Botox you still retain the facial muscles and you won’t have that “Botox Mask” face. It usually takes 3 monthly treatments for best results and then repeated annually (Botox usually lasts 6 months).
The same procedures also work for the breasts and nipples/areolar regions. For women who are happy with their breast size but want a fuller, smoother appearance, this procedure works wonders. For the nipple/areolar area the procedure reverses inverted nipples and increases sensitivity to the area.
The platelets and stem cells are collected in the same manner and the concentrated platelet/stem cell plasma is injected in key locations in the upper breasts and the Décolletage area giving the breasts a fuller and perkier appearance. If desired, the Nipple/Areolar region can be injected to reverse inverted nipples and also increases the sensitivity to the area. As with the face, three series every month give best results with periodic tune-ups as desired.
Medical weight loss
Weight loss has been part of medical culture for centuries. One of the first medical attempts used a chemical to actually “bypass” the mitochondria in fat cells; whereby making them so inefficient that the body would be forced to starve itself regardless of how much was consumed. Unfortunately, Medicine and Physics never discussed this as the law of thermodynamics was always in play. Simply put the energy had to go somewhere and patients rapidly developed temperatures over 108 to 110 degrees and their brains turned to mush.
Soon realizing that another approach was necessary the bright idea of ingesting “medical” tapeworms would be easier and when the desired weight was obtained the patient simply took a de-worming medication to kill off the tapeworm. I am serious when I say weight loss brought every charlatan out of the woodwork with their “miracle weight loss cures”. From elixirs to parasites to sewing the mouth shut, medical weight loss has had an interesting history. Unfortunately, few, if any, of these attempts worked.
Bariatric surgery made its appearance to make the stomach smaller, or bypass the stomach all together. While this was effective, it involved surgery on a population that was high risk to begin with. But even with drastic major surgery most patients eventually overcame the surgery and the weight came back.
As we finally began to understand the actual interplay with insulin and other hormones with weight and health, new medications with actual health benefits were developed. Eventually, weight loss could be achieved without risking your actual health if not your life. The first of these medications was Metformin, a diabetic hyperglycemic medication. Taken daily it proved to be one of the first truly effective diabetic medications. During the early years of its use physicians noted a gradual weight loss in patients as well as better diabetic control. Soon it was used exclusively for weight loss with a degree of success. However, the weight loss was slow and some of the side effects were not easily tolerated, mainly stomach pain and diarrhea.
So the search continued until Ozempic was formulated for better diabetic control. Its mechanism was similar to Metformin but with fewer side effects and was injected once a week. It wasn’t even a year before people started using it “off label” for weight loss. So much so there was an actual shortage for diabetics. Pharmaceutical companies, never at a loss to recognize the potential for profit, soon developed protocols using the same medication but now marketed for weight loss. Thus, Semaglutide became the Hollywood and internet influencer’s miracle drug. This was soon followed by Tirzepatide which also allowed weight loss without the side effects. Finally, an actual weight loss system that actually worked and could be well tolerated. Medications that actually worked with the body’s own hormones and appetite regulation for actual, sustainable weight loss.

Testosterone Replacement Therapy
Unfortunately as we men age we also go through a drop in hormones. It’s not as dramatic as menopause in women, but much more slowly and the changes are more subtle. There is also an interesting cause and effect that is unique to men. Testosterone is naturally converted into estrogen; and this estrogen is very important in the right amounts to support cholesterol metabolism and to a certain degree bone health. But too much estrogen causes the belly fat to develop into the classical character of the “GUT”. Here’s the fun part, the more belly fat you get, the more of the enzyme is present to convert the testosterone into estrogen, causing more belly fat. Downhill slide, vicious cycle, call it what you will, once it gets going, it’s off the charts and you’re no longer shopping in the ‘34’ men’s jeans section. The good news is, if you replenish the testosterone and block that estrogen conversion, the Belly Fat is just one thing that gets reversed.
The male body loves testosterone. In fact the normal range for a young man is almost ten times that of the male in his 30’s and 40’s. What this means is that we can increase a man’s estrogen into the range of a man in his 20’s and the body will respond as those younger pathways are re-awakened. Add to that a reasonable exercise program and a little tweak in the estrogen conversion and your back in the 34 Men’s section.
At Perry Medical we have been treating men for low testosterone for close to 20 years. We know all the tricks of the trade. First of all you cannot increase testosterone by taking oral supplements. It wont work, Period. The liver takes anything taken by mouth and dumps it straight out. You can only supplement estrogen “parenterally” meaning bypassing the liver with injections or skin application. Second, the topical testosterone is only designed to bring testosterone levels back into the ‘normal’ range. Normal for a middle aged male, not an optimal level of Tom Cruise on the beach volleyball court.
So we are committed to injections. It’s really no big deal. Either you can administer the testosterone yourself or drop by the clinic and we will do it for you. Depending on the levels we are aiming for you will need injections weekly, bi weekly or monthly. That is a decision you and our providers will help you make depending on your goals. To do this properly, it does take close monitoring, especially in the beginning. Checking not only testosterone levels but also estrogen and various organ functions. Here is also where PSA comes into play. Prostatic Specific Antigen, the marker for prostate cancer. Importantly, Testosterone will not cause prostate cancer, but it will feed it. So we always get a baseline level and check on a schedule depending on how long you are on testosterone and the levels of changes in PSA, if any.
It all boils down to this. We are professionals. Not the local gym rats with their own ideas of how to do this. We will get your testosterone up to the levels you are looking for; rapidly, safely, and achieving maximal results. Choose from the two plans that are available: a three month prepaid plan for $450 or a Monthly $200. Required labs from a lab specially tailored for our hormone replacement and weight loss programs $250 (labs are drawn initially for a full panel and periodically as needed to adjust Testosterone and Estrogen levels. Typically labs are checked initially, at one month, six months and annually from there). Medications and supplies are provided per month. Most men require injections every 15 days. You can choose to do the injections yourself or come by the clinic and we will do them for you.
IV Hydration therapy
It’s the latest craze but one we have been doing for decades. Feeling down? Partied a little too hard over the weekend? Need a periodic boost? IV Hydration therapy has become recognized as a quick fix for many of these problems. Not only providing simple Saline Solutions, but a whole range of anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatories to go in the mix. Not sure what you need? Our staff are trained Medical Providers, Physicians and Physician Assistants; not just a phlebotomy tech or nurse who knows how to put in an IV (most of the time). We have mixtures to help recover after a hard workout; Had a binge of unhealthy eating? A vitamin and amino acid mix to get you back in balance. Just as us what’s available. Each IV treatment is $125 and only available to adult patients in relatively good health.
For those suffering from chronic pain or depression we offer a special program of Ketamine IV treatments. These are not for everyone and a thorough consultation with one of our physicians is required to see if this is a good fit for you. This treatment has been shown to truly benefit patients with debilitating depression, long term effects of concussions from car accidents, and even Chronic pain. The Ketamine IVs are typically done in a series of three to six, prepaid for the entire series ($600 per IV treatment plus $350 for initial consult and labs). Autologous Fat Transfer
Sounds really far fetched as most things that are hard to pronounce. But the procedure is simple and the results are phenomenal. We simply take fat from some part of your body and inject it somewhere else it is needed. Specifically, it is replacing the facial fillers for wrinkles and facial lines. Any part of the face that needs a little filling out is perfect for this procedure. In addition, Dr. Perry has developed a specialized treatment where we mix your own Platelet rich Plasma Stem Cells with the recovered fat and use this for the injections. Not only does it provide the smoothing of wrinkles and lines but stimulates collagen formation in the dermal layers of the skin. Making the effects last many times longer than normal fillers and Botox alone.
In addition, this same procedure can be used for the breast as well. Women who are happy with their breast size but desire a little plumping up or smoothing out of some areas; this procedure is an extension of the Platelet Rich Plasma Stem Cells procedure mentioned in another section. The procedure is similar in that the fat is sucked from an unwanted area (usually lots of areas to choose from), then mixed with your own harvested Platelets Stem Cell Plasma and injected in multiple areas to sculpt the breasts. A numbing cream is used and for an additional charge, there is Inhaled Nitrous for those who want to be out of it for the entire procedure.
